‘Going for Gold’ Yields Oar-some Result

Hawke’s Bay Rowing’s recent ‘Going for Gold’ Gala dinner and auction evening has successfully raised $100,000 for the Club’s rowing Fund held with Hawke’s Bay Foundation.

The event held at Toitoi Hawke’s Bay Arts and Events Centre raised funds and awareness for the Clive-based club where many Olympic rowing careers began.

Stars of the show, guest speakers Olympic gold medallists Emma Twigg, Tom Mackintosh and  Eric Murray captivated the crowd regaling personal insights into the highs and lows of their careers. Hawke’s Bay Rowing’s Coaching Coordinator Jock Mackintosh says it was a great celebration of the Club’s Olympic success.

“Eric did a great job as MC so the crowd had an entertaining evening. They rewarded us with strong support for the auction and we reached our lofty target of $100,000 raised. In time, this will be used for such things as purchasing boats and gear.

“Hawke’s Bay has built a reputation for producing world-class rowers but it’s an expensive sport, so the funds will help ensure the long-term sustainability of the Club.”
