Scholarship Winners – where are they now?

Hawke’s Bay Foundation offers four annual scholarships: The Colin and Diana Crombie Scholarship, France Scholarship, Barry/BEL Group and Alison Bevin Scholarships. All with different criteria to support different areas of the community.

GEORGIA DENTON (2018 SCHOLAR)

What are you doing now, since winning the Crombie Scholarship?
I studied a Bachelor of Environmental Management Majoring in Water Management at Lincoln University. Upon completing my studies, I began my working career with the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council as a resource consent planner. I have now since finished working at HBRC and have moved to Perth to pursue a career in the mines as an environmental advisor.

How beneficial was the scholarship to your studies and achieving your tertiary goals?

The scholarship was incredibly beneficial to my studies and helped me achieve my tertiary goals as
it supported me financially to get through.

What would you say to encourage current students to apply for this particular scholarship?

I would highly recommend this scholarship to any students who meet the criteria to apply. The thing I liked about this scholarship in particular was that they contacted me for end of semester check ups which was a good way to reflect and show my progress. It was a nice way to keep in touch.

JACOB DRIVER (2020 SCHOLAR)

What are you doing now, since winning the Crombie Scholarship?

In 2023 I concluded my studies at the University of Otago and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree double majoring in Sport and Exercise Science and Psychology. Since graduating I have
been lucky enough to secure a job as ‘Play Advocate’ at the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council and return home. My role as Play Advocate is to promote, advocate and create opportunities for play to occur and minimise the challenges that exist within the Central Hawke’s Bay community.

How beneficial was the scholarship to your studies and achieving your tertiary goals?

The Crombie Scholarship was immensely beneficial in allowing me to pursue my dreams of going to university. While I had saved some money over the years, this scholarship was an amazing top up at the start of each year which set me up super well financially.

What would you say to encourage current students to apply for this particular scholarship?

The Crombie Scholarship is an incredible award that made my university endeavours so much easier.
